Porno DVDs Not Long For This World

by Raunchy Republic Manager on February 6, 2013

Every month we are sent a bunch of beautiful colour brochures by various adult movie (porno) distributors and wholesalers listing their lastest deals and new arrivals from all over the world.  This despite the fact that Raunchy Republic has never stocked porno movies due to the strict laws that prohibit their sale in all states of Australia. The two Territories being the only places that X-rated movies can be  sold legally. You can’t blame them for trying though since many Australian sex shops are willing to risk prosecution by selling adult DVDs.

We visit other sex shops from time to time just to see what they are up to, which products they are promoting and so on. It is amazing to see the number of adult movies that are kept in stock by Australian sex shops, especially since their future sale prospects look dim. Pornography is here to stay of course, but the medium of delivery has most definately swayed from DVD format towards internet download. Why would any business risk being left with so much expensive stock stuck on shelves? Sure, there are some short term profits if you can avoid prosecution or stock confiscation but is it worth the trouble? For us, it isn’t.

Now that the Australian government has abandoned its crazy plans to implement mandatory internet filtering it seems pronography will continue to have feed an enthusiastic audience here in Australia. Cleary, there is a market for it. But the DVD and Blu-ray player are now about as necessary as the old porno movie cinemas that once thrived in America in the 70’s and 80’s. Their time has come and gone.
